Washington Virtual Academy

Steilacoom Historical School District #1 offers, in addition to its traditional schools, a unique academic program, The Washington Virtual Academy.

The Washington Virtual Academy (WAVA) is intended for students in Kindergarten through the 8th grade who may benefit from individualized instruction using a rigorous academic curriculum. Parents act as learning coaches working closely with their WAVA teachers and student. WAVA is a parent/student/teacher partnership. The curriculum made available through K12 Inc. provides a complete school experience for students. Included with each child’s enrollment are the K12 Inc. On-Line School (OLS) that provides a framework for all instruction and all materials necessary for students to complete their assigned course of study. Materials range from textbooks to science manipulatives.

A Washington State Certified Teacher is instrumental in the teaching of the curriculum to the student and monitoring student progress. The WAVA teachers assist students with their lessons and provide support for the parent on tips for successful coaching of their student. As a public school program within the Steilacoom Historical School District, Washington Virtual Academy is tuition-free.
