Steilacoom was awarded a 5-year School Wellness grant from OSPI and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Our district is only one of five in the State of Washington to earn the grant and is part of a coalition of seventeen states which are all promoting school wellness through efforts around child nutrition, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and physical education.
The 2018-19 grant team met in Wenatchee with other districts and OSPI to review the grant parameters and to plan out priorities for the five years of wellness work.
10/8/19 - The state leads for HSW met in Tukwila to review assurances and set up data tracking.
6/10/17 - The District Wellness Committee will meet on Monday, June 10th, 6:00pm at the PDC. Topics include: report from Wenatchee Conference, priorities from the grant, the wellness calendar of events, and policy review.
DISTRICT WELLNESS COMMITTEE
Our District Wellness Plan is found in policy and procedure 6700. It is comprehensive and addresses the goals of nutrition, physical education, and health education in our district.
To make our wellness plan a success, the policy requires several stakeholders
We have a Staff Wellness Committee led by Rod Enos, PE teacher at Chloe Clark. The staff wellness committee promotes staff activities at each school. There are regular whole-district staff events planned throughout the year including an all-staff bike ride.
See the great work being done by staff, students, and community around healthy living.
