In addition to using our classroom library, I will also be escorting classes to the school library every few weeks to check out books. I also recommend all sixth graders get their own Pierce County Library card. The public library has a extensive section of books appropriate for middle school readers. I encourage students to try e-books and audiobooks for variety.

    Biography

I've been an English Language Arts teacher at Pioneer Middle School since 2005 and have thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative spirit that is central to the success of our sixth-grade team. By working together, we have been able to create a strong language arts program that allows students to further develop their writing skills and expand their reading goals. Our commitment to technology gives families several ways to follow their child's progress and to keep familiar with the daily classroom activities and nightly independent reading at home.

Although Pioneer is now my home, I began teaching at the junior high school I attended as a child in my hometown of Longview, Washington. I taught primarily 8th grade at Monticello Middle School for the first 10 years of my teaching career. After moving to central Oregon for a few years and working as a web designer, I returned to Washington and to teaching. It was the best move of my life. I absolutely love my job and look forward to each new class of sixth graders.
