Renewal Educational Programs and Operations Levy
The Educational Programs and Operations (EP & O) Levy is the only locally approved ballot measure that directly pays forclassroom and operational needs such as transportation, safety and security, special education, curriculum, extra-curricular activities and staff. If renewed, the EP & O Levy will allow the District to collect its full statutory authority which amounts to between 4.9 million and 6.6 million per year from 2019 to 2022.
This is funding that allows us to:
- Transport students safely to and from school
- Provide additional educational services for students with special needs
- Pay for qualified substitute teachers
- Pay for educational technology students need to succeed tomorrow
- Pay for keeping schools and grounds SAFE, functional and clean
- Pay for staff training
- Pay for all student programs and activities including:
- 30 sports programs
- over 45 student clubs
- after school buses
- Elementary specialists - Physical Education, Music, Art and Technology
- Elective Classes at Middle School and High School
- Highly Capable and Advance Placement (AP) course offerings
- Reduce class size
Levy dollars pay for 31% of our personnel, including teachers, specialists and support staff.
Positions beyond state apportionment:
- 15 teachers and certificated specialists
- 17 support staff
- 17.5 special education
General Election Information
The Steilacoom Historical School District Board of Directors approved Resolution 840-11-08-17 to bring a renewal levy measure before the voters on the February 13, 2018 ballot. This Educational Programs and Operations Levy in not a new tax. It is a renewal levy, which will enable the district to bridge the gap between what the state pays and what it actually costs to run our educational programs for students. The levy gives us local control to fund what our community values.
What is the time frame?
Ballots will be mailed in January 2018 and Election Day is February 13, 2018.
Is there a senior citizen exemption?
