District Information
Established in 1854, Steilacoom Historical School District No. 1 is the oldest organized school district in Pierce County. The District serves the communities of Steilacoom, DuPont, Anderson Island, and Ketron Island, plus portions of Lakewood and unincorporated Pierce County.
The District is known for its student success in academics, the arts and athletics. Our schools offer a rigorous curriculum, with collaborative teachers who are committed to the "Best Education for Every Student." We are extremely proud of our working partnerships with Joint-Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) and the service we provide to our military-connected families.
Historically, the school communities have supported the District through the passage of bond issues for new facilities and local levies to enhance basic education. Just over 3,200 students are currently enrolled in the District's Pre-K through 12th grade programs at six facilities: a remote and necessary Pre K through grade 3 elementary school on Anderson Island and five mainland schools - Cherrydale Primary School (Pre K-3), Chloe Clark Elementary (Pre K-3), Saltar's Point Elementary (4-5), Pioneer Middle School (6-8), and Steilacoom High School (9-12). The District employs approximately 337 certificated and classified staff members.
