International Exchange Students

Steilacoom Historical School District believes that International Student Exchange can be an enriching experience for students, families, and school communities. Such experiences provide international exchange students with a balanced understanding of our country, and also provides U.S. students with a broad world perspective.

SHSD limits the total number of international exchange students to six (6) students per school annually. Additionally, each sponsoring organization may place no more than two (2) students in each school annually. The District will only accept students from international exchange organizations registered with the Office of the Secretary of State of Washington State.
 

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE REQUEST

An international exchange organization wishing to enroll a student with Steilacoom High School should submit their request to Melissa McGann, Student Records Manager (mmcgann@steilacoom.k12.wa.us) for consideration based on the IMPORTANT DATES timeline listed below. 

The request should include:

  1. a complete program description, including the name, address, and telephone number of the local representative,

  2. the organization's Enrollment/Acceptance Form (the form that needs to be signed by Steilacoom High School), and

  3. the student's informational application packet (includes student information, photos, transcript/grades, immunizations, etc.).

Once the application has been reviewed and accepted by SHSD, the district will contact the organization's local representative with next steps for enrollment.
 


IMPORTANT DATES

The District must receive the application and program description by the following deadlines:

  • May 15th for students planning to begin school in the first semester the following Fall,
  • or October 1st for students planning to begin school in the second semester.

The District will provide notification of approval or denial in writing to the program representative in a timely manner, but no later than June 15th for the first semester and November 1st for the second semester.
