Transition to Kindergarten Program

Transition to Kindergarten is an early learning program for children who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten. A screening process is used to determine whether a child qualifies for the program.

Students qualify through an application and screening process. This free program is available for children who are not currently enrolled in an early learning program and demonstrate financial, academic, and/or social-emotional needs. Transition to Kindergarten will focus on essential academics, social-emotional skills, and learning habits to empower children as they launch into their academic journey.

Please note:

  • Space is limited at each school, and completing an application does not guarantee placement.
  • We are NOT accepting out-of-district waiver requests for the Transition to Kindergarten Program.

Classes for the 2025-26 school year will begin in September 2025.

Families are able to submit an application for a child the year before they are eligible to attend kindergarten and live within the boundaries of a participating school.

Your child must be 4 years old by August 31, 2025, to be eligible for the Transition to Kindergarten program.

Note: Children who are kindergarten-eligible should be registered for regular kindergarten.
