Child Find

Child Find is the process for identifying, locating and evaluating all children with disabilities, aged birth to 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services.

Steilacoom Historical School District provides developmental screenings to children between the ages of three and five to identify possible delays in language, motor, cognitive or social-emotional development. Additionally, IDEA requires that unhoused preschoolers and all unhoused children be included in the “Child Find” process for early identification of special education needs. If you have questions or concerns about your preschooler's development, or to refer a child for evaluation, contact the Student Services Office 253-983-2238 or studentservices@steilacoom.k12.wa.us to schedule an appointment.

For students age five through 21 who may have a suspected disability, call your local school and ask for the school psychologist or the school counselor.
